Getting started with ISP Proxies

Learn about Bright Data’s ISP proxies, how to get started, and some tips for best use.

Bright Data's ISP Proxy Network

Bright Data’s ISP Proxies Network is one of our proxy network solutions, and is built of residential IPs bought or leased from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for commercial use, rather than for use from private homes.

This has an advantage over our Datacenter network, as target sites classify ISP IPs similar to residential IPs, even though in reality they are actually hosted on servers. This allows you to access websites and collect data as a real person would, while at the same time benefiting from the high speeds and reliability that are characteristic of high-speed server IPs. 

Best for

  • Accessing hard-to-reach websites very similar to a real user
  • Viewing content, performing ad verification, quality assurance, marketing, and more
  • If you are getting low success rates or blocked altogether when using our Datacenter proxy network and want to keep your fast server speeds and lower cost

Please note: If you need a more sophisticated proxy network, that’s even less likely to to get detected by websites, you may want to consider using our Residential proxies.

Quick Start

  1. Sign in to Bright Data's control panel
    • If you haven’t yet signed up for Bright Data, you can sign up for free, and when adding your payment method, you’ll receive a $5 credit to get you started!
  2. Create your new ISP proxy
    • Navigate to ‘My Proxies’ page, and under ‘ISP Proxies’ click ‘Get started’

Note: If you already have an active proxy, simply choose ‘Add proxy’ at the top right corner

  1. In the ‘Create a new proxy page, choose and input a name for your new ISP proxy zone

Note: Please select a meaningful name, as the zone’s name cannot be changed once created.

   

  1.  IP type
        Choose one of four IP types for your ISP proxy zone:
    • Shared (Pay per usage) -   IPs that are shared across multiple users. Pay only for your usage.
      • Best for: When you want a cost-efficient option, and you don’t require IP exclusivity. 
      • Geolocation targeting: If you plan to target specific locations based on City, Zip code, or ASN, you’ll need to add that here (by default only “Country” is enabled). Learn more about location targeting while sending your request. 
    • Shared (Pay per IP) - IPs that are shared across multiple users. Pay for the IP and its usage. 
      • Best for:  When you want a cost-efficient option, that doesn't include IP exclusivity, and is still configured to a specific geolocation.
      • Geolocation targeting: Please select a country and if you plan to target specific cities within, you can add that as well. Learn more about geolocation targeting with a dedicated IP.
    • Dedicated IP -  IPs that are set aside for your use only
      • Best for: When you need to access websites with an exclusive IP address. 
      • Geolocation targeting: Please select a country and if you plan to target specific cities within, you can add that as well. Learn more about geolocation targeting with a dedicated IP.
    • Premium IPs - Best known IP for eCommarce, Travel and Social media domains, Evaluated by IP success rate.
      • Best for: When you need to access websites with a higher success rate. 
      • Geolocation targeting: Please select a country. Learn more about geolocation targeting with a dedicated IP.

        Tip regarding geolocation: If you choose an IP type where your IPs are automatically allocated (Pay per IP or Dedicated), it is recommended to set up a separate ISP proxy, for each geolocation you wish to target.
  1. Permissions - You can enable our automatic IP fallback flow to ensure 100% uptime even if the IP is down. The request will route through another IP in the nearest location

  1. To create and save your proxy, click ‘Add proxy’

    A note on Account verification:

    If you haven’t yet added a payment method, you’ll be prompted to add one at this point in order to verify your account. If it’s your first time using Bright Data, then you’ll also receive a $5 bonus credit to get you started!

    Be advised: You will not be charged anything at this point and this is solely for verification purposes

 

  1. Sending your first ISP request
    After creating your new proxy, it’s time to send your first request.
    In your proxy zone’s ‘Access parameters’ tab, you’ll find your API credentials which include your Username (Customer_ID), Zone name (attached to username), and Password

  • Copy the ‘Base cURL’ test example and paste it into your CMD prompt
  • It should look like the following but with your credentials already swapped in:
    curl--proxy brd.superproxy.io:22225 --proxy-user brd-customer-<CUSTOMER_ID>-zone-<ZONE_NAME>:<ZONE_PASSWORD> "https://lumtest.com/myip.json" 
  • Press ‘Enter’ to send your request and if it’s successful, the expected output should look like the following:

  • Now, simply try it with any domain you would like to target, replacing  “https://lumtest.com/myip.json” with your target domain. That’s it!
